Principal's Corner

Batter Up, Bulldogs!

Dear Level Grove Bulldog Families,

Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your child’s principal this year! After 28 years as an educator in both private and public school settings in two states, with 15 of those serving as an administrator, I can honestly say that I still wake up throughout the Eve of the First Day of School so excited to begin a new school year! There is nothing quite like the first day of school with sweet children walking in to their classes beaming for their first day pictures! Words like "hopeful," "energetic," "eager to learn," and "full of anticipation," barely describe the experience. It is one of the things that make me so thankful for being an educator and principal today. I am thrilled to lead our Level Grove Bulldogs this year!

I began my career journey in education way back in the 80's as an eighth grade teacher in Plano, Texas. From there I moved to Gwinnett, Georgia, and began teaching sixth graders for eight years at Sweetwater Middle School. I decided to pursue teaching in a private Christian school in Duluth, followed by serving as a principal of grades 3-5 at that same school. In 2005, my husband and I were able to move to Habersham County, where I was able to work as Assistant Principal at Demorest Elementary and Principal of South Habersham Sixth Grade Academy. In 2010 I became Principal of Fairview Elementary where I had the privilege of leading my kindergarten students through their entire elementary years. What a blessing each school experience has been to me, as I have been able to cultivate wonderful relationships with students, families, and staff of each school. We are One Habersham – all committed to SUCCESS for ALL STUDENTS!

When I think back on my first day of school as a teacher right out of college, I remain true to my passion for helping children develop as well-educated, well-rounded, future leaders. This year our theme is LGES BULLDOG ALLSTARS – EVERY PLAYER PLAYS! EVERY PLAYER WINS! Join our students and staff as we learn to run the bases in order to score daily homeruns: Homeplate: STEP UP TO THE PLATE 1st Base: MAKE SMART CHOICES; 2nd Base: TREAT OTHERS RIGHT; 3rd Base: MAXIMIZE YOUR POTENTIAL; Back to Homeplate: SCORE FOR THE TEAM!

My desire is for each child to walk into our school that first day of school and experience joy, awesome learning experiences, a sense of purpose and belonging, and an “I cannot wait to go back Monday!” attitude.  Please join me this year in making our HCS mission a reality: Success for ALL Students!

Sincerely, Dr. Darlene Hudson
