Saturday Parent Engagement Program

October 22, 2016

Parents from different elementary and middle schools attended the ELL Parent Engagement Workshop on October 22nd.   They learned how to use the Internet, and be familiar with the school websites. A specific step-by-step bilingual handout was provided for them in order to search important educational websites listed under the media center links. Parents navigated through Tumble Books, Destiny, as well as Unite for Literacy, Sheppard Software, and other sites. They also were informed about the parent access to power school, Study Island, and Success Maker. Students can practice searching these educational software programs at home.  At the end of the session, a survey was distributed to the parents to get feed back about the workshop and upcoming themes. The lower grade students worked on parts of speech, sequence cards, and the upper grade students worked on science projects. Ms. Dawson and Huntington helped the high school students to practice the ACE History test.

Overall, parents and students enjoyed the program. The parents requested more information about the reading levels, GA Milestone, Internet Safety, and Help with the Homework. These are a few of the comments:

“ I appreciate learning about the educational websites” “ I would like to learn more about computers so I can help my child.”

“I want to thank you, the teachers for taking your time, and teaching us to use the computer.”

“I really appreciated the information about the specific sites, and log in information. This workshop helped me to identify which one would be good in a subject area, to better meet the study needs of my kids”
