ELL Saturday Parent Engagement Program

On Saturday, April 9, 2016 the theme was how to use the Internet and educational websites. Parents received a detailed bilingual handout about how to navigate their school website. They were very pleased, due to the fact that the school web page can be translated into their native language. After that, they navigated several educational websites such as Starfall, Study Island, Sheppard Software, and United for Literacy, etc. They were very thankful that they learned about how to access power school on the county school website. This was an eye opening experience for parents who have children in the upper schools. At the end, parents went to the cafeteria to watch their kids’ science experiments, and a performance about planting seeds. Overall, the meeting was successful and parents expressed their gratitude.  Here are some of their comments:

“I liked the information about how to teach the children.”

“I would like the meetings will start at the beginning of the year.”

“I liked learning about the free learning websites and power school.”

“I liked very much the information about how to access the school websites, reading books, games, and the fact that we can check our children’s grades”. Thank you for taking your time to teach us.”

“I liked the theme, it was very interesting but I would like it to start earlier in the year so we can monitor our kids.” It would be great if the program started at the beginning of the year.”

“I liked to know that we can use the Internet so we can help our children. I would like to learn about Internet Safety.”
Teachers Silvia Corwin, Suany Latty, and Debbie Cain
